A message from our Board Chair

If time goes faster because things are going well, then I am not surprised that 2019 has flashed before my eyes!

Connections has experienced growth in so many facets and this year is no exception.  We have completely renovated our kitchen and office space for our staff.  Our community has generously supported our Building UP! Campaign to enable the creation of 3 additional therapy rooms, an outdoor education space, an accessible washroom and replacement of windows in our building.  There has been tremendous sacrifice and patience needed for these renovations to happen and on behalf of the Board of Directors for Connections, I would like to extend thanks to our tireless leader and Executive Director, Barb Brown, our enthusiastic staff, committed volunteers and especially our families who navigated graciously through the disruptive nature of multiple renovations.

We are very grateful to all who have supported our fundraising initiatives like Trivia Night, our Charity Golf Tournament, Ticket Raffle, Giving Tuesday and Paint Nite.  Not only do these events help us with needed funds for Connections, they also provide a wonderful opportunity to connect with others in our community.  It is very special to see Alumni from Connections attending events and updating us on how their children are doing in addition to how much they have grown since we saw them last!

In the fall of this year, our Be Back Soon program was highlighted as a best practice by Pathways to Prosperity: Canada.  This program was recognized as being effective, efficient, relevant, innovative and forward thinking.  I think these terms define the roots of all programs and services provided at Connections.

I would be remiss if I did not mention that our Executive Director, Barb Brown was awarded an Alumni of Distinction award from St. Clair College for her outstanding leadership in Early Childhood Education.  Congratulations to Barb; a great opportunity to reflect on a wonderful legacy of community outreach and professional achievement!

In closing, I want to emphasize that at Connections we believe it takes a community to raise a child.  Knowing there is a safe place to bring our children that is family-focused, inclusive and responsive to each family’s unique needs is the driving force behind why we as board members, staff and volunteers full-heartedly and passionately give our dedicated time and expertise to Connections.  I look forward to another year of continued service, growth, adventure and connections!
